Goods and service tax is commonly known as GST. A GST branch is a formation of branch that has a separate entity from its parent organisation. Many organisations register their branches to suit the structural, management and accounting arrangements of the organisation, now-a-days.

Eligibility
An organisation can register its branch as a GST branch if:

  • The branch has an independent accounting system;
  • The branch has a separate identity, like – distinctive activities or location;
  • The entity manages an enterprise through the branch and is not a member of a GST group.

If you have GST registration in your business, you can apply for GST branch registration. After the registration, your branch will need to lodge its own GST return. You can register as much branches as you wish. To register a GST branch, the parent entity applies using the following steps:

  •  First you must log into the homepage of the Business Portal;
  • Then select Business Registration details (a client details screen will be displayed);
  • After that go to Activity Statement account, then select tax type summary;
  • Enter the details as prompted and submit it. You must have to notify the GST branch registration number to the tax office. When you have registered a branch, it will be called as a GST branch. A GST branch is a part of the parent entity's business. However, when an organisation registers its branches as a GST branch it will be treated as if it were a separate entity for reporting.
