LIVING AWAY FROM HOME ALLOWANCE FRINGE BENEFITS

A living-away-from-home allowance (LAFHA) is an allowance that as an employer you pay to your employee to cover additional expenses incurred or any disadvantages suffered due to their living away from their normal place of residence for their employment purpose. You may provide food or accommodation to your employee or reimburse your employee’s actual food or accommodation cost incurred in the new place instead of paying them cash LAFHA.

Access to tax concessions for LAFHA fringe benefits is applicable if your employee provides you with a declaration about living away for the first 12-month at a particular work location from their home that was maintained in Australia at which they usually reside.
