Departing Australian Superannuation Payment (DASP) is a super payment for those who have been working while visiting Australia on a temporary visa and earned super. This super payment has to be made after they have left Australia.

There are few eligibility requirements to claim this DASP, which are as follows and all the requirements should be fulfilled for the claim:

  • Your superannuation has been accumulated while you worked in Australia on a temporary resident visa which was issued under the Migration Act 1958 (excluding Subclasses 405 and 410);
  • Your visa has already ceased to be in effect (i.e. expired or cancelled);  You already left Australia;
  • You are not an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident of Australia.

Before applying for DASP, you need to check with your employer that they have paid the entire
super they are required to. You can claim this payment from your super fund as soon as you leave Australia. If you claim after 6 months of leaving Australia, then you must claim your DASP from ATO because all the unclaimed DASP will be transferred to ATO from super fund.
